 Becker VineyardsTop Texas Wine! Becker Vineyards' Viognier won the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation Award for Top Texas Wine at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Wine Competition. The 9-liter bottle was sold at the wine auction for $100,000! Located in the Texas Hill Country between Fredericksburg, Texas, and Stonewall, Becker Vineyards was established in 1992 by Richard and Bunny Becker. Forty-six acres of estate grown French Vinifera vines generate 8 different available varietals, including Syrah, Petite Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Petite Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The front vineyard has 21 acres of grapevines; the older vineyard in the back has 25 acres of grapevines. A three acre lavender field adds to a wine-country-of-Provence-France ambience. The blooming season for the lavender is typically May through June, but the lavender fields provide a beautiful setting, year 'round, for visiting guests. The Becker Lavender Festival is Celebrated each year in May. The winery is housed in a 19th-century German stone barn reproduction, surrounded by lovely gardens, peach orchards, fields of native wildflowers and lavender. The Tasting Room features a large stone fireplace and an antique bar originally from the Green Tree Saloon in San Antonio. Becker Vineyards is open for tastings, tours, wine gift purchases, and picnics. We invite you to join us on the porch during the spring and summer months, or in the cozy Tasting Room by the fireplace during the winter. We also host many Events throughout the year.  Wall Photos Today in Texas History - On this date 166 years ago, December 29, 1845, Texas (comprised of the present state of Texas and parts of New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming) was admitted as the 28th state of the Union. A state constitution, drawn up by the convention, was ratified by popular vote in October 1845 and accepted by the United States Congress on December 29, 1845, the date of Texas’s legal entry into the Union. The formal transfer of authority from the republic to the state was not made until a ceremony held on February 19, 1846. President Anson Jones handed over the reins of state government to Governor James Pinckney Henderson having declared “The final act in this great drama is now performed. The Republic of Texas is no more.”
