Bob agrees to take in a nightclub act by the Haynes sisters, Betty and Judy, as a favor-so he thinks-for their brother who served with Bob and Phil in the war. Phil always tries to get Bob interested in a girl, usually one in the show. When he realizes that Bob is smitten with Betty, he arranges to accompany them to their show at a small Vermont Inn. Imagine their surprise when they learn that their old commanding officer, Major General Tom Waverly, is the inn’s owner. The General has sunk his savings and pension into the venture but it has yet to snow and it looks like he’s on the verge of bankruptcy. They come up with a plan to help the General, but a series of misunderstandings leads to a rift between Bob and Betty leaving it to Phil and Judy to try and get them back together-which, of course, they do. Held the first Friday and Saturday in December at the Fredericksburg Marktplatz, the event kicks off the holiday season in grand style while introducing visitors to the City’s vibrant array of new holiday decorations, including the 26-foot Christmas Pyramid and the new 30-foot Christmas Tree. At the St Nikolausmarkt, over 40 booths will provide visitors with the opportunity to shop early, with wares ranging from Christmas ornaments, nutcrackers, children's toys, pyramids, clothing and accessories, to traditional German clothing; candles and jewelry. But that’s not all, at the new St Nikolausmarkt, visitors will get a taste of Fredericksburg’s German heritage with traditional German foods served, including sausage, schnitzel, warm pumpernickel rolls, sauerkraut, and more. Sweet lovers will marvel at the variety of cakes, cookies and candies. And don’t forget the beer! Along with soft drinks and local wines – including the warm, spiced Glühwein – the festival will serve a variety of German beers, further emphasizing the German theme of this event. Recycling efforts will also be in effect, with trash receptacles readily available to accept cups, plates and paper goods made using recycled materials and with separate receptacles available for plastic cups – a conscious nod by event organizers toward creating a “greener” festival. Gates to the St Nikolausmarkt open on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and remain open to welcome visitors until 9:00 p.m. On Saturday, gates are open from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. There’s no admission charge on Friday, while tickets on Saturday are $5 for adults and free for children age 12 and younger. Adult admission is one dollar off on Saturday for individuals with active military ID and seniors age 65 an older. “The St Nikolausmarkt festival is patterned after Christmas festivals in Germany and truly reflects this community’s German heritage,” cites Melodi Frederick, chair of the St. Nikolausmarkt Committee. She added, “This new festival brings the opportunity to share our German traditions with our families and the many visitors who choose to spend time in our city, and we’re so excited to make it happen!” White tents at the festival will house the 40+ booths that feature everything from Christmas ornaments, nutcrackers, children’s toys, pyramids, and jewelry, to traditional German clothing. In addition, traditional German foods and beverages will be served on site. Enjoy sausage, schnitzel, warm pumpernickel rolls, sauerkraut, and, for sweet lovers – cakes, cookies and candies. Plus Glühwein, warm and spiced German wine, will be available, along with soft drinks, local wines, and an assortment of German beers. There’s no admission charge on Friday to the St. NikolausMarkt; however, tickets on Saturday are $5 for adults and free for children age 12 and younger. Adult admission is one dollar off on Saturday for individuals with active military ID and seniors age 65 and older. St. Nikolaus will be available for photos on Friday evening following the Parade and all day on Saturday. Attendees are invited to take their own complimentary pictures. No cover, everybody and their boots are welcome! Josh got his start in performing music at the age of 8 singing at open mic night at the Inn of the Hills in Kerrville. He then began playing venues all around the hill country on a regular basis as he grew up. His first CD came out in 2001 under Cowboy Capital Records in Bandera. The CD was titled “Bull Rider’s Dream” and contained 10 tracks that were written by Josh about his love of bull riding and rodeo, and about growing up in the Texas Hill Country. Five years later, he released his first live album, “Live at Nelson City,” recorded at Nelson City Dance Hall, where he performed some of the tracks from the first CD, and some tracks that were yet to be released. Then in 2007, he released his next studio CD, “Central Texas Kid” which was recorded at Flashpoint Studio in Austin and produced by John Inmon. Again, the tracks were penned by Josh and written about his life experiences, pains and joys and about life in the Hill Country. All the while, Josh has continued to play bars, honky tonks, and dancehalls, weddings, parties and casinos, all across Texas and the southern United States. It’s been called honky-tonk, Americana, and Texas Roots. As a musician he expresses the joy and suffering of being alive. Clay is a soulful singer-songwriter and musician whose talent brings out emotions and moods in his audience. Clay has been creating his unique sound for nearly a decade. Some of his influences are his father- Delbert McClinton, Rodney Crowell, Mark Knopfler, J.J. Cale, Terry Allen, Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt and Willie Nelson. Clay’s musical virtuosity shines with the release of his third album, Livin’ Out Loud (2010). He blends Americana and Texas blues with a touch of country to give us a tremendous follow up to his two previous releases—Out of the Blue (2004) and Son of a Gun (2006). Livin’ Out Loud is openhearted and thoughtful, and often explores the tension between the love for adventure and the longing for home. Clay has taken grand leaps both as a singer-songwriter and as a musician, and the eleven tracks also foretell of great things to come. Much like his earlier albums, Clay wrote or co-wrote ten of the tracks. He was honored to write with Bruce Channel, Dave Duncan, Rob Roy Parnell, Ricky Ray, and of course, Delbert. He produced the album with Kevin McKendree, a longtime family friend as well as Delbert’s piano player. Clay describes the process of creating the album with these and other great musicians as one of self-discovery and personal and professional growth. In the opening song, “Whole Lotta Work,” Clay rocks the Texas electric blues as he laments what it takes just to have a little fun. He follows with “Puttin’ Down Roots,” a country song celebrating the joy of building and creating a home with his two hands. “Bird for a Day” is a brooding country rock song that expresses the desire to explore the world, free from responsibilities. Several tracks on the album wrestle with feelings of love and loss. On “Driftin’ Away With You,” Clay conjures love in the tropics. “The One You Loved” and “Damage is Done” are both emotional confessionals about heartache and regret. The closing track, “Gone to Mexico,” written by Delbert McClinton but never recorded, is a Latin-infused blues-rock tune that expresses the yearning for solitude away from the technology-driven world. The variety of musical styles and moods on Livin’ Out Loud reflects Clay’s growth and development, and offers promise that his sound will continue to touch the world. Clay was raised around harmonicas, guitars, and pianos. Born in Fort Worth, TX he spent much of his childhood around a lot of talented musicians, watching and listening. During his early teenage years he spent a couple of summers touring as a roadie for his dad. Clay felt at home in the culture and lifestyle of playing music and being on the road. It should come as no surprise then that by the time he was seventeen Clay had already played in several bands and was occasionally sitting in on guitar with Delbert during live performances. But it wasn’t until he graduated high school and moved to Austin, Texas in the mid-nineties that he began to focus more seriously on his music career. Once in Austin, Clay began sitting in on harmonica and guitar with local musicians. Austin’s music scene was the perfect classroom for him to cultivate his talent. Several years after moving to central Texas, Clay went on a four-month tour through Europe and parts of North Africa doing street performances with some musician friends. Upon returning to the States in 2000, Clay decided to move to a small mountain town. He settled on Flagstaff, AZ, moved into a converted school bus on the outskirts of town, and started two bands—The Blues Project and Second Harvest. For the next three years Clay was performing locally five to six nights a week. It was in Flagstaff where he met Brandy Alan, who is now his wife and band manager. It was also in Flagstaff where The Clay McClinton Band first took stage. In 2003 Clay moved to Nashville, TN with the intention of focusing exclusively on writing and producing an album. Nashville provided the creative atmosphere and demanded a level of professionalism that allowed him to grow as a musician and songwriter. With the release of his debut album, Out of the Blue, in 2004, he had accomplished his goal. Clay wrote or co-wrote all of the songs, and he co-produced the album with Vinny Constantine. By the time Out of the Blue was released Clay had enlisted several musicians who would form the backbone of The Clay McClinton Band for the next three years. While he called Nashville home, most of his time was spent on the road touring; the band was typically booked for about 175 shows a year at venues across the U.S. and as far as Norway. Clay took time in 2006 to return to Nashville and record his second album, Son of a Gun, which Indie-Music.com rated as in the top 25 Indie albums of the year. He co-produced Son of a Gun as well, this time with Kevin McKendree. In 2007, after three years on the road, Clay moved back to Austin to regroup and begin writing his third album. The current incarnation of the Clay McClinton Band is best described as a cooperative filled from the pool of Austin’s rich community of musicians. He plays regularly at prominent venues across Texas such as the Saxon Pub, Granada Theatre and Luckenbach. In 2009, the newsletter from the historic Gruene Hall in Gruene, TX described Clay as one of their fastest growing acts. With the release of Livin’ Out Loud, Clay is poised to get back on the road for another national tour. We hope you enjoy the album as much as Clay enjoyed creating it! - Written By Gardner Harris http://www.claymcclinton.com/ Dec 03 Sat National Museum of the Pacific War - Pacific Combat Living History Re-enactment The National Museum of the Pacific War December 3, 2011 - December 4, 2011 Show Event Details > Hide Event Details > The National Museum of the Pacific War 340 East Main Street Fredericksburg, Texas 78624 830-997-8600 Visit Website: www.pacificwarmuseum.org Email: info@NimitzFoundation.org National Museum of the Pacific War - Pacific Combat Living History Re-enactment Pacific Combat Living History Re-enactment This popular Living History program uses objects from the museum's education collection to bring World War II to life for visitors as re-enactors demonstrate the weapons and discuss the tactics and strategy that won the war. FYI A house concert is an informal event hosted in a private home. For the listener, this setting allows them to experience a songwriter/musician's performance in a quiet, intimate setting. For the artist, this is a time to share their talents in a setting where the focus is on the music. When the concert begins, we try to get everyone seated. We lower the lights, turn off our doorbell, turn off the ringer on our phone, and ask everyone to put cell phones or pagers on vibrate. Most concerts involve a pot luck supper between sets. During the pot luck supper and after the concert, there is time for the audience to personally visit with the artist. Most artists tell us that even though the income from a house concert is limited, it is one of their favorite gigs because of the attentiveness of the audience. Many of them will share their inspiration for a song, prior to playing it. House concert hosts donate the use of their home for the event, along with their time and expenses for promotion, coordinating reservations, cleanup, etc. This is a pure gesture of appreciation for the music. One hundred percent of the donations are given to the artist. The songwriters and musicians that we host, are usually local, or regional artists from a variety of different musical styles: Folk, Texas Music, Americana. "Born in Louisville, KY with Bluegrass in my blood, I moved to Texas with my mom after my parents divorce. I'd been around music my entire life so by the age of 4 (when I got my first guitar) I'd already decided my goal in life was the endless pursuit to be a Rock and Roll guitarist and musician just like Jimi Hendrix. Shortly after the move to Texas when I was at the age of 6, my mom brought me a Stevie Ray Vaughan album. After listening to every song I was hooked. I now own every Stevie Release, DVD, CD, and some Vinyl! I was and am a die-hard Stevie fan! He was a wonderful and very talented person! After discovering Stevie I began to dig deeper and deeper into the world of BLUES! I'm a blues freak! The more dirty it gets, the better I like it! My blues influences include Howlin Wolf, Hound Dog Taylor, Jimmy Reed, Slim Harpo, T-Bone, Hop Wilson and many, many more! Although being a serious blues fanatic I still widened my listening to country, hip hop, bluegrass, Rock, Rockabilly, punk, surf, FUNK a lotta Funk! There's sooo much out there! For the last 13 I've been playing around San Antonio and the surrounding areas with many bands such as The Krybabies, Tony "TONE" Cuellar, Henry & Roy Perez-The Rythem Kings, Spot Barnett, Gilbert "Big Daddy" ""Shuffle King"" Gonzales, Bluesland, Benny Harp, Mitch Webb & The Swindles, Los 3 Dinners, W.C. Clark, Reverend Horton Heat, Tim Krekel, The Dust Devils, Ollin, Blues4Sale, Rob Roy Parnell, The Krayolas, Oh So Good Band, Jay Boy Adams, Lee Roy Parnell, Toat Lee Blues, S.A. Blue Cats, King Pelican, Miss Neesie and The Ear Food Orchestra, After Midnight Blues Band, theres more I need to add! And after 13 years of payin' dues, I'm still payin' em'! So while I'm still in S.A., check the calendar and come on out! .. Dec 09 Fri Fredericksburg Theater Company Presents "Inspecting Carol" Steve W. "I'm a hurricane baby, you better look me in the eye" the not-so-serious but mostly accurate bio In 1990 Susan Gibson went to college; it was there she found her love of trees and open mics. When pressure grew to pick one or the other, she moved to Amarillo to join forces with the Groobees, a choice that produced 3 albums, 5 sets of hard feelings, and one shoulder tattoo. During that time, esteemed producer Lloyd Maines, in an effort to get his daughter out of the house, sent Natalie Maines and the Gibson penned “Wide Open Spaces” to the Dixie Chicks. The rest is political and socioeconomic history. Recently, after being asked enough about it for the past decade, Gibson had to look up just what exactly the Dixie Chicks did win at the Grammy’s in 1999. Google affirmed that she did indeed write the title track to a Grammy award-winning album...... 10:15 pm, Bob Schneider Bob Schneider makes his debut in Luckenbach Texas! Bob is a fixture in Austin and around the country. He comes in as many colors as a Kaleidescope; all of them extraordinary. Bob Schneider is one of the most talented artists in the music world today and he doesn't seem to be running out of creative influences anytime soon. Once you get on the band wagon you will keep coming back for more just to see what he's up to next. He is cutting edge, he is a master at reading crowds and he works a room like the aroma of a fresh baked pie...you will concede. Genre?? hmm.. Sorry, that shoe doesn't fit. Pop, country, blues, rock, punk, techno, house, contemporary.. How about "Good". Let's just leave it at that. Between the release of their first CD, Brothers of the Castle back in 2001, to their 2006 release, Brotherhood, Del Castillo has received an astonishing 18 awards including SXSW/Austin Music “Album of the Year” Awards for Vida (2002) and Brotherhood (2006), “Band of the Year (2003)”, ASCAP’S “Best Independent Group of the Year (2005)”, and Austin Music Pundits “Best Live Act (2004)”. Rolling Stone calls Del Castillo “tumbling brilliance on nylon-string classical guitars” with “eruptions of technique and taste (that) conjure images of Eddie Van Halen fronting early Santana (with an assist from the Gipsy Kings).” Film Director Robert Rodriguez attended a Del Castillo concert in 2002 and a great friendship developed between the two. Rodriguez then enlisted the group to contribute music to the soundtracks of his movies, such as “Spy Kids 3D”, “Once Upon a Time in Mexico”,“Sin City”, and “GRINDHOUSE”, and perform with him at the premieres. Rodriguez was so impressed with Del Castillo that he wanted to record with them, so together, they formed CHINGON and recorded an amazing electric rendition of the Mexican classic song, “Malaguena Salerosa”. Quentin Tarantino loved it so much that he re-did the ending sequence of “Kill Bill Vol. II” to fit the song into his movie. His tunes evoke mystical visions of wind-swept dry-plains and his lyrics are profoundly imaginative, often displaying for his listeners the miracles that occur in the ordinary through creative irony and metaphors. His lyrical style has often been compared to that of Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie and his songs have been covered by the likes of Emmylou Harris. Hancock is also a member of renowned country rock super-group, The Flatlanders, along with his lifelong friends, Joe Ely and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, a band they formed in 1972. During his acclaimed career, Hancock has written and recorded several landmark albums, some of them sparse and simple, others as big as the West Texas sky. After moving to the progressive country hotbed of Austin in the mid 70s, he started his own label (Rainlight) and released the quintessential West Texas Waltzes and Dust-Blown Tractor Tunes in 1978. In the years that followed he continued to release albums deep with meaning and memory, a foundation that cemented his world-wide reputation as a master wordsmith. In 1990, Hancock and more than two dozen musician friends staged a Guinness Book of World Records worthy event entitled No Two Alike and played six straight nights of live performances in Austin's famed Cactus Café, recording 140 of his original songs without repeating a single song. He released the staggering output later in the year as the No Two Alike Tape of the Month club. This past year, Butch reprised the event, this time entitling it, No Two More Alike. BOB LIVINGSTON is a singer-songwriter, bass player, and a founding member of The Lost Gonzo Band. Livingston was a key figure instigating the cosmic cowboy, progressive country and outlaw country music movements that distinguished the Austin, TX music scene in the 1970s.[1] Over the years, Bob Livingston has gained a reputation as a band leader, solo artist, session musician and sideman in country music. He has toured without stop for 42 years, and is one of the most experienced and recorded musicians in all of Texas music. Livingston's newest CD, Gypsy Alibi, released by New Wilderness Records in 2011, won the "Album of the Year" at the Texas Music Awards 2011. Unlike many bands nowadays that have incorporated two band member names or even fictitious characters as their name, there actually is someone named Loyd Bohnam. Now Loyd says his music career began in Gospel as the music director of his church, however, he loved music as a child, and began his journey of playing when he was given a guitar in the 5th grade. He learned to play, one chord at a time, from different people that came in and out of his life. Through the years, as he perfected his talent, he never felt the confidence to do anything with it until he was older. He said if he would have known how easy it was to put a band together, he would have done it when he was 10. Of course, the perfect combination has come about over time. The Loyd Bohnam Band has that perfect combination with Spence on bass, Larry on guitar, and the designated drummer, B.J. This particular heavenly night we were treated with memories of starting in music, excitement of current successes, and dreams for the future. With each album, the group gravitates closer to the classic sounds that inspired them to learn their craft. What’s old is new again; with young audiences flocking to see a live show that lays its musical roots more in 1967 than 2011. And that’s just fine with bandleader Roger Blevins, Jr. “Blues, soul and R&B is the common denominator of pop music. People around the world know that sound- Chess, Stax, Motown, Muscle Shoals – as part of the soundtrack to their lives. I grew up listening to Pops (Blevins’ father and Mingo’s bassist, Roger, Sr.) play those tunes to every age, race, color and creed. And from what we see, at least, people still need it.” Mingo Fishtrap traces its beginnings to the mid 90s when Blevins and another five of the group’s eight members were attending the University of North Texas’ Jazz Studies program. Originally derived as a loose, after-class jam, Mingo covered songs from Otis Redding, Tower of Power, the Neville Brothers and other soul and funk masters with no particular professional ambition. “Obviously, there wasn’t a lot of classic soul being played around campus,” says Blevins. “People around the dorms just took to it and the ball started rolling. We were good friends playing music we loved; that’s a good recipe.” And it’s that same delicious soul food that Mingo cooks up today. With an inspired, high-energy live show, they engage the audience – persuade them to, sometimes literally, join the band inside the music. With a new 11 song EP, In The Meantime, featuring music from a recent show in Austin, TX as well as some new studio tracks, adding to their catalog of CD releases, Mingo captures a musical conversation, which speaks with reverence about the past and with hope about the future. Through their time together on the road, Mingo Fishtrap has performed on bills with a wide range of artists: Sting, Blues Traveler, Ozomatli, Galactic, Delbert McClinton, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Little Feat, George Clinton & P-Funk, MOFRO and Jonny Lang among others. Mingo is currently touring and recording for a new CD release. http://www.mingofishtrap.com/ Dec 18 Sun Luckenbach Texas December 18, 2011 1:00pm Show Event Details > Hide Event Details > Luckenbach Texas 412 Luckenbach Town Loop Fredericksburg, Texas 78624 888-311-8990 | 830-997-3224 Visit Website: www.luckenbachtexas.com Luckenbach Texas - Thomas Michael Riley Honored two times as Hill Country Entertainer of the Year, Thomas Michael Riley was first known as the songwriter for Gary P. For two years Matt wowed sold-out audiences as the “Piano Man” in the First National Tour of the Billy Joel/Twyla Tharp musical “Movin’ Out”. He performed at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, and guest starred in the Carolina Opry at Myrtle Beach in 2006. The Texas State Senate has honored Wilson with a resolution for his achievements in the area of fine arts. He’s been featured at numerous piano bars around the country such as Jellyrolls at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. In 2007 Matt completed his theatrical multimedia tribute to the great rock n roll piano players, My Baby Grand. The show has been performed in venues such as Zach Scott Theater, Tex Arts and The Long Center in Austin, TX. Each year, Matt Wilson headlines numerous private and social events for companies and parties of all sizes. Matt Wilson offers the ultimate in entertainment. He never fails to elicit excitement from his audience and he does so with intelligence and verve. With 4 CD’s to his credit Wilson’s songwriting is catchy without being pandering and is infused with a degree of depth not to be expected in most of the pop world. When requested, Wilson calls on his massive repertoire of cover tunes and performs them with an energy and artistry equal to the original. The best music in the Texas Hill Country is live at Hondo's on Main. Hondo's on Main also has a great selection of Gourmet Texas Cusine! Tonight Celebrate New Year's Eve with The Dust Devils! Representing Texas with their original southern-rockin', genre-bendin' "Farm-to-Market Rock'n'Roll" style of music, The Dust Devils' sophomore release, Gathering Dust was recorded between Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in Spicewood, TX and Emerald and Masterfonics in Nashville, TN. The CD swept the 2006 Texas Music Awards winning "Album of the Year", "Song of the Year" (Walk On), "Female Vocalist of the Year" (Barbara Malteze), and "Vocal Duo of the Year." .. Some of the talent assembled to perform on the CD include such legendary figures and top Nashville studio musicians as Barry Beckett (Bob Dylan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams, Jr.) and Glen Duncan (Earl Scruggs, Merle Haggard). By a chance meeting, an instant friendship was formed with legendary photographer, Carl Dunn, (www.thisisrockandroll.com), who graciously offered up his services and contributed portrait photos of Malteze and Higgins for the CD's artwork package. Carl is known for his breathtaking photos of Led Zepplin, Janis Joplin, Robin Trower, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Ritchie Blackmore, Aerosmith and most every rock icon of that era. In 1998, Kevin Higgins and Barbara Malteze, (founding members of the group), hired their band, originally called The Cosmic Dust Devils, in Austin, while working on Higgins' solo CD, Dark Side of the Barn, which AllMusicGuide.com proclaimed was “…one of the classic country/folk/rock albums of that year.” The CD won “Album of the Year” at the 2000 Hill Country Music Awards. Higgins would go on to become a 2000 Kerrville “New Folk” Finalist later that year, earning the band a spot on the Main Stage at the 2001 Kerrville Folk Festival. Kevin Higgins, (guitars/vocals/songwriter), was raised in El Paso, playing in cover bands until he decided to pursue a career in songwriting. He moved to L.A. in the early '90s where he met Barbara Malteze, who was fronting her own blues rock band at the time. After the couple moved to Austin and recorded Higgins' solo CD, they formed the Cosmic Dust Devils, performing over 100 shows a year, all over the state of Texas. The group released a self-titled CD in 2002 which received rave reviews, such as "Higgins is quite possibly the next great Texas songwriter," -(Rockzilla.com); and "...a sparkling and important release" –(AllMusicGuide.com). In 2004, Higgins' song, “Company Time”, was placed in the movie “A Day Without A Mexican” (and released on the EMI soundtrack). In early 2005, Barbara Malteze,(vocals/keyboards/mandolin), was invited to perform the headlining tribute at the "18th Annual Janis Joplin Birthday Bash" at the Port Arthur Civic Center. Back when Cashbox was the voice of the music industry, they wrote, "Barbara does know how to pump out ripping vocals." Malteze's past as L.A. heavy metal vocalist/songwriter for her self-titled band, Malteze, is still very much alive in Europe, as evidenced by a 3-page 2003 interview in Metal Maidens Magazine (Netherlands), the 2006 worldwide vinyl LP release of Count Your Blessings by Femetal Records, and a recent interview with "Heavy" Magazine (the 2nd largest heavy metal magazine in Germany), for the Nov. 2006 issue. Malteze continues to make waves in Texas, as she accepted the honor of "Female Vocalist of the Year" for two years in a row at the 2006 & 2007 Texas Music Awards, a feat of repetition that no other artist has accomplished thus far. .. A Nashville music-industry showcase in 2006 garnered such reviews as “…they impressed at their showcase and are an act to watch.” –(CountryMusicFactsandNews.com). Founding member of Marshall Tucker Band, George McKorkle was on hand to introduce the band at the showcase... XM Satellite Radio rotated cuts by the band on a regular basis beginning in Jan. 2006. In Sept. 2006, several Cumulus Broadcast stations picked up “Outlaw Girl” to brand their stations’ “outlaw” image. As of Feb. 2007, with practically no promotion, "Looking for Pearl" rose to 2 on the TexasTop40.com site, with over 5,000 downloads logged. Critics have compared Higgins' songwriting to that of Townes Van Zandt, Neil Young, Patterson Hood, and Red Stegall. "...the sound of the South never went away - it just got better with age..." (4-1/2 star review) -(AllMusicGuide.com). Higgins went on to win 2nd place in the coveted 2006 B.W. Stevenson songwriting contest held in Dallas, (just to keep the critics honest). The Dust Devils’ industry showcases have included "Windows on Texas", (a Texas Hill Country event held in January, similar to Austin's SXSW); an “Official Texas Party” CRS-37 showcase at the Renaissance Hotel in Nashville; “South by The Sons” showcase at the Sons of Hermann Hall in Dallas; and non-sanctioned appearances in Austin at Waterloo Ice House and Flipnotics during SXSW. During the 4th Annual “Coastal Bender” , a huge fan-appreciation party held in Port Aransas, TX, The Dust Devils released a CD recorded in a week's time, Change in the Weather. The excitement surrounding the CD created quite a stir, with articles appearing; (Sept. 2006, “Rising Stars” special feature, Best in Texas Magazine), (Oct. 2006 cover story, Hill Country Happenings) and (Oct. 2006 feature interview, The Stars of Texas Magazine). At one point, Change in the Weather charted at 25 on the Roots Music Report , staying there for several weeks. The fans have been describing The Dust Devils as "the Led Zeppelin of Texas", because the band has a distinct way of "genre bending." They can lay down a hot honky tonk number; a ripping 70's rocker; then a bluegrass groove; scream thru a blues tune; caress a ballad...you never know what to expect with this group. And they do it all with energy, feel, abandon and talent. This is Americana at it's best...no one else is kickin' up dirt this hard, creating the real melting pot that folks call "Texas music." Greg Patterson, DJ, KHYI 95.3, (Dallas), says it best, "...the Dust Devils are the Cinderella band of Texas..." Encouraged by his bandmates to release a solo cd, Kevin released FIND YOUR SHINE on Little Train Records in Feb 2010. Funded soley by investors from his fan base and recorded in seven days at East Austin's premiere analog studio under the guidance of producer Stephen Doster (Nanci Griffith, James Honeyman-Scott) the cd has been receiving international critical acclaim, as well as reaching #53 on the Americana Chart. "Who needs Europe? The Texas Hill Country, west of Austin and north of San Antonio, might be the next best thing to crossing the Atlantic. The region is lush, colorful and, unlike much of the pancake-flat state, dotted with beautiful green hills that are evocative of Tuscany or the south of France. Moreover, the region is speckled with 22 wineries that buzz with food and music festivals year round. And towns like Fredericksburg offer a taste of the Old World, with German-style biergartens and schnitzelhauser. " #1 on Away.com's Top 10
