"The Fruits of their Labor" - Aleksander and Lyuba Titovets
Aleksander and Lyuba Titovets immigrated to the United States from St. Petersburg, Russia twenty years ago. Theirs is an American success story and we are proud to host a show with over 20 new works from these two classically trained artists.
Arriving in the US in1992, Aleksander had $25 in his pocket, new ideas, a different perspecitve on life and art, and some canvases he and Lyuba had brought with them. They worked odd jobs and continued to paint when the time allowed. With hard work and determination they have lived the American Dream. They did not receive any government assistance but instead relied solely on the fruits of their labor. As they persevered, they saved money and their ability to focus more on their art grew.
Today, they are both full time painters with numerous accolades and awards. Their work has been shown throughout the US and has become part of collections throughout the world. Aleksander was commissioned to paint then first lady Laura Bush for the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Aleksander once asked me: "In what country could this happen? That an immigrant of 10 years would be painting the president's wife? Only here, Meredith. Only in the United States."
Their story is compelling and uplifting and we are honored to share the current fruits of their labor with you.
Happy Anniversary Aleksander and Lyuba!

Pacific Combat Living History Re-enactment
On scheduled weekends throughout the year, the Pacific Combat Zone comes alive with the sights and sounds of combat on a Pacific island as American Marine re-enactors move in to capture fortified positions from their Japanese defenders. Employing landing craft, tanks, explosive charges and flame thrower, the Pacific Combat Living History programs explain and illustrate the equipment, weapons and tactics American Army and Marine and Imperial Japanese Army forces employed in the deadly struggles on islands like Tarawa, Peleliu, Saipan and Iwo Jima.
Admission to these 90-minute programs is $7.50 for adults and $5.00 for students. Children under 6 are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the George H. W. Bush Gallery or the Admiral Nimitz Museum. Walk-up tickets are normally available at the Pacific Combat Zone prior to the program; however, these shows are subject to sell-outs. Earplugs are provided.
This popular Living History program uses objects from the museum's education collection to bring World War II to life for visitors as re-enactors demonstrate the weapons and discuss the tactics and strategy that won the war. The Pacific Combat Zone is located two blocks northeast of the museum complex on E. Austin Street between Elk and Lee. Tickets
Three programs on Saturday: 10:30 am, 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm
Only two programs on Sunday: 10:30 am and 1:00 pm

Continuing a long-standing German tradition, St. Nicholas always makes a stop at the Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg on the first Saturday in December to fill the stockings of boys and girls at the annual Kinderfest. Children are invited to hang their Christmas stockings over a large hearth in anticipation of a visit from St. Nicholas. Children will enjoy singing, story-telling and making a craft! At the end of the party, children get to see what surprises have been placed in their stockings.

Kinderfest depicts the German tradition of putting out shoes on the eve of St. Nicholas Day. Good children received nuts, fruit, and candy, while naughty children might find a switch or a lump of coal.

Kinderfest is free to all local and visiting children ages 10 years and younger, accompanied by a parent.

GARRISON BROTHERS DISTILLERY - HYE, TEXAS

Garrison Brothers Distillery™ is a small distilled spirits plant located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. We manufacture Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey™ from our kitchen, still-house and barrel barns in Hye, Texas.
JUST A SCENIC DRIVE AWAY!

The “Sit and Sip” Tour is a guided walk of the ranch-distillery with detailed information about the bourbon whiskey industry and the history of Garrison Brothers. You’ll visit the kitchen, smell the sweet corn cooking, taste our distiller’s beer, and nose fermenting sweet mash. Our cooks will explain the process from “corn to cork.”

You’ll also tour the legendary Garrison Brothers stillhouse and sample fresh-flowing 135-proof “white dog”, right from the stills. We’ll visit the barreling barn and you’ll sign your own barrel. If we’re barreling the day you’re there, we’ll allow you the honor of hammering in a bung. Our distillers will explain how the stills operate and what it is we do that makes Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey
such an extraordinary bourbon.

Finally, we’ll walk you through our showcase barrel barn and pour you a small sample of our limited release Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey, the 2008 Small Batch Vintage, in our saloon and gift shop. Here, our hospitality manager will give a detailed explanation of the importance of barrel maturation in making fine bourbon whiskey. This tour takes about an hour and a half.

Texas Hill Country #1
on The New York Times
31 Places to Go This Summer

"Who needs Europe? The Texas Hill Country, west of Austin and north of San Antonio, might be the next best thing to crossing the Atlantic. The region is lush, colorful and, unlike much of the pancake-flat state, dotted with beautiful green hills that are evocative of Tuscany or the south of France. Moreover, the region is speckled with 22 wineries that buzz with food and music festivals year round. And towns like Fredericksburg offer a taste of the Old World, with German-style biergartens and schnitzelhauser. "
