What's On Main Street
The central shopping district, referred to as "The Magic Mile", is separated from the West Main Street shopping district by Marktplatz.
"The Magic Mile" begins just east of the Admiral Nimitz Museum and continues west to Marktplatz. Along the way, in outstanding historical buildings, you will enjoy top quality shopping. Wide sidewalks and courtyards line the streets making this a lovely walk. Marktplatz, in the 100 block of Main Street, could easily be called the heart and soul of Fredericksburg, Texas. Many of Fredericksburg's famous festivals and events are held here. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind. There are pavilions, picnic tables and public restrooms.
You can take a leisurely stroll through the exquisite native gardens, studded with heirloom roses. For the kids, there's a playscape, a storytelling Maibaum, a waterwheel and extensive, well manicured lawns for running and playing. The Maibaum was created by metal artist Roy Bellows, and shows the history of Fredericksburg all along its patina branches. Other historical sculptures can also be found on the grounds. The Vereins Kirche Museum stands at the center of the Marktplatz, It was the first public building in town. It has served as the town hall, a school, a fort, and a church.

August 29 – October 26, 2014 The Gallery at Vaudeville presents Rodolfo Choperena
"My work is "abstracted" photography: representational but complicated by the obscuring and absenting of the subject. By inducing movement and the manipulation of light sources, I provoke a figurative tableau towards transforming into abstraction. Every shot, every video is the evidence of a performance, with the acts of montage and manipulation performed in-camera. Movement is the primary performative act. By manipulating the camera's placement, aperture and exposure settings in relation to color fields, landscapes, light sources, precipitation and seascapes, my work pushes the boundaries of perception to create organic and lyrical freeforms. Resulting images retain their pure chroma. Each is a reinterpretation of the original subject, containing striations that move in varying intervals and rhythms, alternately compressing and expanding positive and negative space. However abstracted a composition may be, a firm representational vantage points plays host to personal objects and scenario manipulations, making each image a direct reflection of my ever-changing environment".

31 Places to Go This Summer
"Who needs Europe? The Texas Hill Country, west of Austin and north of San Antonio, might be the next best thing to crossing the Atlantic. The region is lush, colorful and, unlike much of the pancake-flat state, dotted with beautiful green hills that are evocative of Tuscany or the south of France. Moreover, the region is speckled with 22 wineries that buzz with food and music festivals year round. And towns like Fredericksburg offer a taste of the Old World, with German-style biergartens and schnitzelhauser. "
