Texas Hill Country #1 on The New York Times "31 Places to Go This Summer" "Who needs Europe? The Texas Hill Country, west of Austin and north of San Antonio, might be the next best thing to crossing the Atlantic. The region is lush, colorful and, unlike much of the pancake-flat state, dotted with beautiful green hills that are evocative of Tuscany or the south of France. Moreover, the region is speckled with 22 wineries that buzz with food and music festivals year round. And towns like Fredericksburg offer a taste of the Old World, with German-style biergartens and schnitzelhauser. " - The New York Times, Sunday, June 1, 2008 |

Old Tunnel WMA was acquired by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1991. The primary goals of the WMA are to implement sound resource management practices and research investigations to insure the long-term stability of the bat colony, while providing for maximum public outreach opportunities. Research has been conducted at Old Tunnel WMA since the property was purchased by TPWD, and results of these research projects have allowed biologists to make sound management decisions. Bat-viewing opportunities exist seven nights a week and educational presentations are given Thursday through Sunday, May to October.(When visiting Old Tunnel, we recommend bringing a pair of binoculars to get the best view of the bat emergence.)
The nature trail at Old Tunnel WMA is open year-round. Visitors can enjoy activities such as hiking, bird watching, and general wildlife-viewing. Several educational exhibits with information on bats and railroad history are located along the half mile trail and from May to October bats can usually be seen flying within the tunnel from the trail. Live music every Saturday from 2-6 in the Pavilion and Piazza. Today The Shelley King Band! Writing “a proverbial trunk full of instant hits and yet-unheard classics,” as the Austin Chronicle describes her songs, King has risen from the vibrant music scene in the Texas capital city to charm fans across North America, Europe and Japan, win two Austin Music Awards, and be named the Texas State Musician for 2008! Luckenbach Texas 412 Luckenbach Town Loop Fredericksburg, Texas 78624 | MapWhen your dad is a founding father of outlaw country and a major musical legend, at some point, you realize resistance is futile: Even if you don’t seek a career in music, eventually, it’s gonna seek you.
Like the Cash and Jennings kids, Paula Nelson picked up “Papa Bear” Willie’s way with a song early on — along with her aunt Bobbie’s skill on piano, which Paula started playing at age 7. Although her dad once advised her, “Remember to watch everything I do and do the exact opposite,” she drew influences from his Highwaymen pals and contemporaries such as Kris Kristofferson’s then-wife, Rita Coolidge, whose bluesy, supple vocal style provided one of Paula’s earliest templates as she found her own voice. Texas Monthly has called that voice “torchy,” and the Los Angeles Times praised, “There’s no missing the unforced power of Paula’s singing.” Pioneer Museum Complex 312 West San Antonio St Fredericksburg, Texas 78624 Bring your whole family to the Roots Music Series at the Pioneer Museum!

He has played with the likes of Slaid Cleaves, Max Stalling, Mark David Manders, 1100 Springs, Brian Burns, and Kent Finlay.
Candace Kunz-Miller has been tearing up central Texas with her combination of home grown lyrics, powerful country-blues spiced voice, and propulsive rhythm playing. She has been Nicknamed the “Luckenbach Sweetheart” from her years of performing at and being a major part of the legendary Texas establishment. Both T-Roy and Candace released CD’s as solo artists before they married, and today T & C Miller have two CD’s under their wedding bands: the 2007 release, “Drinkin’ Songs,” and their current CD, “By Request.” Their music is sometimes introspective, sometimes hilarious, sometimes spontaneous, and always charmingly honest. They are really just a hill country gal and a piney woods guy with an all too natural musical chemistry and the bond of kindred spirits. That pretty much sums up T-Roy and Candace Miller.
