Bat viewing nightly May-October. The trail to the lower viewing area is closed each evening. Monday through Wednesday evenings the trail and lower viewing area are not open to the public. On Thursday through Sunday evenings, the trail will only be open to those visitors who pay admission to view the bats at the lower viewing area.

Old Tunnel WMA was acquired by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1991. The primary goals of the WMA are to implement sound resource management practices and research investigations to insure the long-term stability of the bat colony, while providing for maximum public outreach opportunities. Research has been conducted at Old Tunnel WMA since the property was purchased by TPWD, and results of these research projects have allowed biologists to make sound management decisions. Bat-viewing opportunities exist seven nights a week and educational presentations are given Thursday through Sunday, May to October.(When visiting Old Tunnel, we recommend bringing a pair of binoculars to get the best view of the bat emergence.)
The nature trail at Old Tunnel WMA is open year-round. Visitors can enjoy activities such as hiking, bird watching, and general wildlife-viewing. Several educational exhibits with information on bats and railroad history are located along the half mile trail and from May to October bats can usually be seen flying within the tunnel from the trail.

Jana Pochop (yes, the "h" is silent) was born on a cold, November day in South Dakota and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Now she is a singer-songwriter in Austin, Texas who has set out to prove that a history degree does not mean certain professional death if she turns it into some good songs.

Jana's been changing her strings a lot this past year with residencies at various Austin venues, sharing the stage with Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines, and touring the U.S. with CMA Songwriter of the Year Susan Gibson. Her new EP, "The Early Year," was produced by Daniel Barrett from Austin band porterdavis. And yes, she did play all the instruments on it. She blogs furiously.

Kathy Bauer has a passion for country music. Her influences are Emmylou Harris, Tammy Wynette and Merle Haggard. She charted on Billboard’s Country Top 100 in 1983. She performs with her band all over the Texas Hill Country. There is experience in her voice and you get the feeling that she has lived the songs she sings.

Like the Cash and Jennings kids, Paula Nelson picked up “Papa Bear” Willie’s way with a song early on — along with her aunt Bobbie’s skill on piano, which Paula started playing at age 7. Although her dad once advised her, “Remember to watch everything I do and do the exact opposite,” she drew influences from his Highwaymen pals and contemporaries such as Kris Kristofferson’s then-wife, Rita Coolidge, whose bluesy, supple vocal style provided one of Paula’s earliest templates as she found her own voice. T-Roy Miller is a prominent songwriter/producer and has been formerly known as a multi-instrumentalist from an ongoing list of talent. He has played with the likes of Slaid Cleaves, Max Stalling, Mark David Manders, 1100 Springs, Brian Burns, and Kent Finlay.

Candace Kunz-Miller has been tearing up central Texas with her combination of home grown lyrics, powerful country-blues spiced voice, and propulsive rhythm playing. She has been Nicknamed the “Luckenbach Sweetheart” from her years of performing at and being a major part of the legendary Texas establishment. Both T-Roy and Candace released CD’s as solo artists before they married, and today T & C Miller have two CD’s under their wedding bands: the 2007 release, “Drinkin’ Songs,” and their current CD, “By Request.” Their music is sometimes introspective, sometimes hilarious, sometimes spontaneous, and always charmingly honest. They are really just a hill country gal and a piney woods guy with an all too natural musical chemistry and the bond of kindred spirits. That pretty much sums up T-Roy and Candace Miller.
