With little experience and a lot of determination, Anne & Barry Bradley brought Artisans at Rocky Hill to the Texas Hill
Country. Artisans opened its doors on July 1st, 2005 with the objective of showcasing fine Artisans & Craftsmen who
reside in the inspirational hills of Texas. Over 90% of all artwork in the Gallery is created right here, in Central Texas.
Moving from Houston, Anne & Barry, along with their two children Sean and Nicole, arrived in the Fredericksburg area in
1999. With the move came the opportunity to absorb and enjoy new artistic styles. Barry quickly became enchanted
with the native woods of the area. His designs changed from urban/ traditional to those which can only be inspired by this
area in Texas. Several years were spent showcasing his newly inspired creations through various venues. His wooden
canoes were well received as a unique and beautiful art-form not often found in Texas. It was clear Barry’s talent had
emerged into a fine art and with that realization, Artisan’s was born.
A busy family schedule and a tight budget encouraged the Bradley’s to enlist the help of the Artists. Maintaining posted
business hours is essential so, during the week and some Saturdays, our visitors will find an Artist in the Gallery who’s
anxious to visit about any work on display. Often times you will find the Artist in the midst of creating what will soon
grace the Gallery walls. Anne refers to the Gallery as not a “drop & go, receive a check” Gallery. The success of Artisans
depends greatly on those who showcase their work and the Artists contribute in many ways. Roughly half the Artists
actually work in the Gallery during business hours; some bring heavy appetizers to events and others perform
demonstrations of their talent. Everyone is involved in one fashion or another and as a result, the Artists have taken
ownership in the Gallery. Each Artist is genuinely grateful to be able to participate in this unique situation which has
become more like a family than a retail environment. Anne and Barry are grateful to have these wonderfully talented
people in their lives.
The serene setting of Rocky Hill has proven to be the perfect backdrop for Hill Country talent. Beautifully landscaped
grounds plus, a wine tasting room, a four star restaurant, a neighboring gallery, an art school and two B&Bs add to the
magic in place at Artisans. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the grounds & artwork on display at Rocky Hill while sipping a
glass of wine and taking in the lush hills. Just 5-1/2 miles east of Fredericksburg and away from the hustle and bustle of
a busy tourist town, you’ll find the front porch of Artisans relaxing and a place where there’s always a bottle of water or
cold beer to enjoy. “We are a relaxed, casual environment with something visually pleasing to everyone. Whether to buy
or not, all are invited to Artisans to enjoy the Hill Country talent, the peacefulness of Rocky Hill and even make a new
friend or two”
