The exhibition “Land Tide & Pivot”, curated by Vaudeville Gallery Director, Mary Parker, pairs the recent Pivot sculptures by McKay Otto – known primarily as a painter of ethereal, mystical, almost iridescent abstract paintings – with a specific body of earlier works by Reginald Rowe from the early 1970s, elemental works with a flat, almost graphic quality that pre-date his more well-known shaped and heavily textured, constructed panels. Linked by a shared preoccupation with the relationship between materiality and form, an elusive geometry, and the notion of transcendence, the exhibition presents the work of two Texas masters in a dialogue moderated by Parker’s close observation and long friendship with both artists.
Opening night and artist reception on Friday, October 4, from 6 to 9 pm during First Friday Art Walk Fredericksburg.
