Native American Seed - Native American Seed is committed to offering only those plants that are native to our bioregion. You won't find African daisies, bluebonnets that have been grown in China, or even California poppies in any of their mixes. They understand that every ecosystem is a delicate web of relationships that have evolved over centuries. Humans, with all their power of creativity and imagination, must respect the wisdom of those centuries before entering into the processes of nature as active participants. The simple truth is that native seeds belong in your landscape. Once they are established they'll work for you, not the other way around. They are at home here, and they know how to take care of themselves. They need no extra watering once they've established their roots. They are naturally disease and bug resistant. Fertilizing is not required, in fact, natives work to improve the land on which they live. As we come to know more about the interdependence of all life, we understand more and more how important it is to make intelligent choices about how we use the precious resources of nature. The quality of the water we drink and the air we breathe depends on it. You have a choice about what to plant on your land, whether it's an 80 x 100 urban lot, or hundreds of acres in the countryside. You have the power to make a difference! Become native to your place. Choose a path of stewardship and a lifetime of wonder and enjoyment.

Rock Box Theater Presents a Buddy Holly Tribute Show - August 12th at 7pm
Buddy Holly was an American musician and singer-songwriter, often considered one of the most important Artists of Rock and Roll in the mid-1950s. Holly was described by critic Bruce Eder as "the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll. This show features all the best of Buddy Holly! Don't miss the chance to reminisce and hear the songs that laid the foundation for the for an emerging new sound in American MUSIC History… ROCK N ROLL!
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame included Holly among its first class in 1986. On its entry, the Hall of Fame remarked the large amount of material he produced during a short career, and declared that it "made a major and lasting impact on popular music". It called him an "innovator" for writing his own material, his experimentation with double tracking and the use of orchestration; while it also added that he "pioneered and popularized the now-standard" use of two guitars, bass and drums by rock bands.[56] The Songwriters Hall of Fame also inducted Holly in 1986, and stated that his contributions "changed the face of Rock 'n Roll".

Saint Nikolaus was a 4th century bishop who was known for his good deeds.  The most famous story tells of how he secretly helped a poor man and his three daughters.  Nikolaus was too modest to help in public, and wanted to save the man from any possible humiliation.  Under the cover of night, Nikolaus climbed onto the roof and dropped three pieces of gold down the chimney.  The story goes that the gold fell into three shoes which were upon the hearth.  Another story says that the gold fell into stockings hung on the mantle to dry. In Germany, St. Nikolaus Day is celebrated on December 6th, Nikolaus' reputed birthday.  Many children put a Nikolaus-Stiefel (Nikolaus boot) outside of the front door on the night of December 5th. St. Nikolaus fills the boot with sweets and gifts if the children were good and helpful all year.  If they were not, they will have a Rute (tree branch) instead!

Arts Education Must Be Saved!

Art, Music, Dance, and Drama can Drive Academic Achievement and are Key to Student Development.
"Years of research shows that Art Education provides almost everything,  that we as a nation, say we want for our children and demand from our schools: academic achievement, social and emotional development, civic engagement, and equitable opportunity. Involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skill. Arts learning can also improve motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork". - Fran Smith, Edutopia
