Marktplatz (Market Square) The well-known park in the heart of Fredericksburg includes pavilions and a playground for individual use. At the center of the park is the The Vereins Kirche (an extension of the Pioneer Museum). It was built soon after the arrival of the first German settlers, and stands as a tribute to the courage and vision of Fredericksburg’s founders. It was the first public building in the town, and served as a town hall, school, fort, and a church for all denominations and the original site of the Pioneer Museum. The original building was demolished in 1896, but local citizens dreamed of rebuilding it and in 1935 that dream came true. Today, this much-loved symbol of our German heritage houses exhibits that introduce visitors to the rich history of Fredericksburg. Marktplatz is also the site for many community festivals. Public rest rooms serve citizens and visitors to the downtown area. Marktplatz can be rented for special events including, weddings, receptions, family reunions, and private parties. Tin Star Ranch is a 370-acre ranch that is one of Fredericksburg's finest attractions. There are five guesthouses that capture the feeling of the old west of the 1800's and an old west town reflecting exact replicas of historic buildings from the frontier. The saloon is available for weddings, (up to 200 persons). The Longhorn Palace at Tin Star (the saloon) provides a unique setting to celebrate special occasions. The building is a newly built replica of an 1880's Victorian-style saloon complete with 30-foot oak bar. The central meeting area covers 2500-square feet with 14-foot ceilings. Views of the surrounding pastures and hillsides are breathtaking. The Longhorn Palace accommodates: 160 seated guests for dinner or over 200 guests standing for banquet-style meals or 350 guests for a stand up reception.
