Join the Hill Country Astronomers as we celebrate lunar observation, science, and exploration!
The evening begins with an educational program near the Visitor Center at 6:30PM. After the program, we’ll move to the parking lot where members of the Hill Country Astronomers will have telescopes set up to view the moon and other night sky objects.

September 19th was “International Observe the Moon Night,” a worldwide public event that encourages observation, appreciation and understanding of our Moon and its connection to NASA planetary science, exploration and human culture. But why celebrate the moon on only one night? It is sponsored by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. The event typically occurs each year around the first quarter phase in September or October. This year’s event is happening during a waxing crescent – the moon is slightly less than 1/2 illuminated and the shadows along the terminator (the line between night and day on the moon) are long and dramatic.
