Happy Birthday WASPs! The WASP, or Womens Airforce Service Pilots, were founded on August 5th, 1943 to provide crucial stateside non-combat aviation services. This freed up much needed male pilots for deplyment. The WASP program was disbanded on December 20th, 1944, but before that over 1,000 women flew 60 million miles and delivered 12, 650 aircraft.
